(Note: To pay by Purchase Order, please register and click "Invoice Me")
This week will immerse you in experiences, ideas, and practice, to equip you with skills and a plan for how to build a plan for next year focused on proficiency for your students, engaging, student-centered lessons, and more ease and happiness for you in planning and teaching.
This Institute is designed for for teachers of students with proficiency of at least Intermediate Mid who are ready to transition to higher-level language proficiency. Learn a system for designing content-based instruction aligned to AP/IB themes, to your students’ interests, and to curricular goals such as teaching about culture or content-area studies, such as history or science. Learn how to scaffold output to help your students develop the thinking, writing, and speaking skills to be successful on AP/IB tests and build their confidence in using the language to communicate about academic topics. Modified Reading and Writing Workshop strategies will be shared. Learn a system for authentic assessment, how to assemble portfolios of student work to document progress, and how to use rubrics to backwards plan lessons and experiences that help your students develop their language ability.
Daily teaching demonstrations with Dana in French will allow you to experience class as a student for three hours daily.
Debrief time with Dana will show you the thought process that went into the instructional decisions you saw happening in your class.
After lunch, we will work with the Resource Manual to cover foundational skills and the nuts and bolts of lesson and unit planning, assessment, literacy, classroom management, and just enough theory to help you defend and support your proficiency-oriented classroom!
You will receive a 275-page Resource Manual as a hard copy as well as in PDF and Word version. You will have lesson plans, assessment resources, rubrics, and coaching guides to launch your teaching practice into higher orbit this fall. Sample pages from the Resource Manual are below.
We will live, eat, and breathe proficiency-oriented teaching for a whole week!
Be prepared to work hard...
