The World Language Proficiency Project welcomes you to an intense week of professional growth with Tina Hargaden and Mike Peto!
This week will immerse you in experiences, ideas, and practice, to equip you with skills and a plan for how to build a plan for next year focused on proficiency for your students, engaging, student-centered lessons, and more ease and happiness for you in planning and teaching.
This Institute is designed for teachers of first- and second-year classes, or third-year and higher classes who have not yet been immersed in a proficiency-oriented program in their first two years. Learn a system for building student-driven characters and stories, develop literacy, and incorporate students' interests and lives into the classroom. Learn about proficiency/performance assessment, how to assemble portfolios of student work to document progress, and receive editable rubrics for assessing listening, reading, speaking, and writing, both formatively and summatively.
Daily teaching demonstrations will allow you to experience class as a student for three hours daily.
Debrief time with the instructor will show you the thought process that went into the instructional decisions you saw happening in your class.
After lunch, we will work with the Resource Manual to cover foundational skills and the nuts and bolts of lesson and unit planning, assessment, literacy, classroom management, and just enough theory to help you defend and support your proficiency-oriented classroom!
You will receive a 225-page Resource Manual in hard copy and as a PDF and editable Word file to give you the lesson plans, assessment resources, rubrics, and coaching guides to help launch your teaching practice into higher orbit this fall. We will live, eat, and breathe proficiency-oriented teaching for a whole week!

Morning snacks and coffee provided.
Lunch will be available to purchase for a minimal cost on-site, or bring your own. Going off-campus for lunch is not encouraged, as we have a jam-packed schedule of learning experiences scheduled for your growth.
